Flip Quest Update

Just a quick update!  We didn't do any garage saling this past weekend, because I did a little of this ...

Imagine this - At Sea World:  A row of snot nosed brats from ages 3 to 10 lined up, waiting to be embraced by a stranger dressed up in a shamu outfit.

Then imagine me hurling aside all of these children and doing this ...
#WINNING

Note the mustache shirt and semi-stache on my lip.  Yes folks, I'm going for it ... I'm growing a Rollie Fingers style mustache ... wish me luck!  Not even sure if it is possible.

I also did some of this ...

Feeding and petting over 150 sting rays...terrifying, yet a blast!

I did, however, sell the vanity, a book, mega blok barn set and camera lens for $183.

Plus ... PLUS ... I have a hugely awesome end for my flip quest if it works out. I'm beyond excited about it, if it all works out. We will see! I'll keep you posted if it comes to fruition.

Here is where we are at now:

Custom cards for a father

Greetings from on the road, fellow cardboard addicts!

As I type this, I'm in a hotel about 200+ miles away from home, and ready to ride shamu.  I just had to post some fun things here while my family is still in bed.

I was recently contacted by someone who wanted to do some baseball cards of himself for his kids, but with a twist.  He played baseball in high school and college (great stats too - batted over 300 and swiped plenty of bags!).  I suggested we do something similar to a Five Star theme.  He loved the idea, so we went forward.

His father took some pictures of him playing (back in the late 80's and early 90's, if I recall correctly.

 Here are the pics:

The coolest thing about it is that he sent me some pieces of his jersey and letter jacket from back in high school and college.  Here is a pic of one of the pieces he sent me:

He has now been forever immortalized with his own custom memorabilia cards, and has something fantastic for his kids!  I love how they turned out - can't believe I didn't take pics of the backs of them.  They turned out great too!

I think they look even better in person.  The pictures weren't as high quality or good of color as I'm used to working with, so I'm always extra happy when they turn out so good even though the pics aren't the best.

Okay, folks - off I go to the wonderful land of the free continental breakfast to stuff myself with bacon and egg goodness!

Oh, before i forget ... a sneak peek at what is to come.  I got this in the mail yesterday just before I left ....

EEEEKKK!!!

He is somewhat of a television hero to me - Nick Offerman.  You may know him better as this fella ...

Ron Swanson, in all of his mustachioed goodness. I actually received two autographs from Nick himself!  I sense a new project in the works soon enough.

If I don't write until then - Happy 4th of July everyone!

Quick Flip Quest Update

Garage Saling was a bit of a snooze-fest.  I picked up the following:

4 PS2 games

2 drop leaf desks new in box from Ikea

Nice oriental 29" tall dragon vase for $10

Rody (I've sold 2 of these for $20-25 each before)  $1

My favorite pick up of the day - Antique Taiwanese Chest $6

Yesterday, the last camera sold for $250 and the coffee table sold for $30.  Looking forward to getting more cards soon!

An Expletive Flip Quest Update ...

Just a few things here to update.

A baby gate we picked up for $1 sold for $40.

The bumbo we got for $5 was sold for $20.

I did a trade for these beauties:

These plaques are of Canseco, Palmeiro and Giambi ... all of which include a game used ball - well, at least from the 2001 Big League Challenge.  Cool pieces!  I will likely rip off one of the ball pieces to use in a custom at some point, if they don't sell before I do!

Last but not least, I traded for these beauties:

Two GEM MINT 1989 Fleer Bill Ripken errors. One is the black box, and the other is the ... ahem ... rick face version. I remember purchasing about 15 cases of older cards 4-5 years ago, and one of the cases was 1989 Fleer. It has a note on the case that was yellowed due to age stating the release date of the case and "Ripken error?" After careful consideration, I ripped into it ... yes ... 20 boxes, 36 packs each ... 720 packs. Half the Ripkens were black box and the other half were white scribble, if I recall correctly. It sure was fun!

My favorite day of the week...

I figured I would update this post since today is GARAGE SALE DAY. One of my favorite days of the week. First, all my cards have sold. I had gotten some in on a trade, but they are gone already too. So, this thread is now card free ... which will probably only last for a few days, I'd imagine. Here is the "stuff" I picked up today at the garage sale.

First, this beauty. Note the uber serious gangsta look I'm sporting. Yes, I take my doll buying/selling seriously. (Actually, this is going to my dad to have him sell.)

HUGE Step 2 toybox - $10

Man with EPIC beard that I tried to covertly take a pic of. You will note he is looking right at me. Note to self: If taking a covert picture, TURN THE FREAKING FLASH OFF #spyfail

Step 2 somethingeruther - $10

Very nice ottoman - $25 (wife is claiming this for now)

Our favorite pickup of the day - a Wii for $30! (It came with a wii fit pad, but we later found another wii fit pad complete with everything else for $10) - We are keeping the wii for sure!

Gamecube for $2 BWAHAHAH

sesame street storage bin system $4

Air Jordans! $5

Bumbo $5

Printer w/extra ink $20 (I may keep this so my expensive equipment won't get used unless making my customs ... this can be me "for everything else" work horse)

Gorgeous circular chinese wall art $8

baby gate $1

glass top wicker basket $5

cubby system $10

2 very nice comic book display pieces $10 (keeping these for now)

Chipotle lunch for a job well done.

One other note of interest: At one garage sale, a woman in her 70's (about 5 ft tall) - I caught her staring at me. She then said "big truck".

"Pardon, ma'am?"

"Oh! I just said that sounded like a big truck!"

Then she followed up with "How tall are you?" It was almost a panicked question. I told her 6'1 and she went on and on about this other guy she knew who was 6'1 and they took a picture together to show how different they were in size. She proceeded to stand next to me almost as if we were about to take a picture.

I wish we had.

Anyway, She yelled over to a younger guy in her garage: "6-1!!!!"

He said "huh?"

She pointed to me "He is 6-1".

"What is that supposed to mean?"

She responded "He is 6 feet one inch tall!!!"

He said "Ohhh, ohhh...kkkkaaaaayyy." Then walked in. At that point, I had to make a fast break for the minivan,, for fear of dying laughing in front of her.

Flip Quest Update 6/14/14

Well, today was garage saling/selling/sailing (which is it? no matter - I'll be sure to continue to use all of them interchangeably) day - over the first hour, I had ZERO luck. I think I just started out too early.

I was able to shell out $30 clams for the following pieces of furniture:

Solid buys, if you ask me!

1 educational book and all of my vintage cards sold as well!

EDIT:  I forgot to post that the Game of Thrones cards sold also.

Anywho, here is the update:
